Single-Sided vs Double-Sided Flyers: Which Do You Need?

Illustrative design: OLIVE AND GRAIN double-sided restaurant flyer mockup

Choose a single-sided flyer when one visible face can explain the offer and next step. Choose double-sided printing when the reader needs supporting information that would otherwise crowd that face. More printed space helps only when it makes the message easier to understand.

When one side can be enough

A simple event announcement, short promotion or display pinned against a surface may only need one printed side. Put the essential message, qualifying details and contact route together. If the reverse will not be visible, do not put information there that the reader must see to understand the offer.

When the reverse earns its place

Two sides can work well for a menu, a service introduction with supporting details or an event handout with a schedule. Give each side a job. The front should tell the reader what this is and why it matters; the back can explain the next questions without repeating the entire headline.

A practical front-and-back layout

Front: make the purpose clear

  • Your business name and one main headline.
  • An image or visual that supports the message.
  • The essential benefit, offer or event details.
  • A clear next action.

Back: help the reader decide

  • The relevant services, menu items or supporting details.
  • Important conditions, dates or instructions.
  • The contact route or QR destination, with a reason to use it.

Keep essential contact information easy to find whichever side someone sees first. Avoid placing a different competing offer on each face unless the purpose of the handout genuinely calls for that.

Ask about paper opacity and orientation

Dark artwork on one face may show through some stocks. Ask to see how the proposed paper handles your design rather than choosing by weight alone. A heavier stock is not automatically the correct answer; paper properties, printing and the amount of ink coverage all matter.

Provide clearly labelled front and back files or pages. Confirm how the reverse should be oriented when the sheet is turned over. Check a proof with both faces before approving the order.

Compare the complete quotation

Double-sided printing does not have one universal price difference. Compare the same size, quantity, stock and finishing so the change in printed sides is clear. If your main goal is readability, compare two-sided A5 with a larger single-sided format rather than assuming one is always cheaper.
