Flyer Artwork Checklist: From Design to Print-Ready File

A flyer can look clear on a laptop and still be difficult to read at its finished size. Check the actual print layout before approving the file: the important questions are what will be trimmed, what stays readable and whether the next action works.

Confirm the job before exporting

Agree the finished size, one or two printed sides and any folds first. Ask Laserco for the required file format, bleed amount and colour settings for the selected production method. Avoid building a final file around a guessed template.

Keep trim, bleed and safe space separate

  • Trim: the edge of the finished flyer after cutting.
  • Bleed: background colour or images that extend beyond that edge so a slight cutting variation does not leave an unintended white strip.
  • Safe space: room inside the trim edge for words, logos, phone numbers and other essential details.

Bleed belongs outside the finished size; safe space belongs inside it. Do not move essential text into the bleed. Use the amounts confirmed for your job rather than assuming every printer uses the same settings.

A restrained architecture layout leaves room around the headline and supporting details. Illustrative design for a fictional business.

Check images and text at the final size

Use the original logo and image files where possible. Enlarging a small screenshot does not restore missing detail. Inspect the exported file for pixelated photos, changed fonts, missing symbols and text that has reflowed. Print a full-size desktop proof to assess readability; this is a layout check, not a reliable colour match to the production press.

Keep the central message short enough to understand quickly. Separate offer conditions from contact details, and check dates, opening times, prices and spelling against your own business records.

If you include a QR code, test the destination

Use a clear reason to scan, such as “View the menu” or “Book a consultation.” Keep the code’s surrounding blank margin intact and avoid placing it over a busy image. DENSO WAVE specifies a four-module quiet zone around a standard QR Code; a module is one small square in the code.

Scan a proof at the intended printed size with more than one phone. Confirm that the correct page opens on mobile and that the visitor can complete the action. A short written web address or phone number gives readers another route if they cannot scan.

Approve the exact final version

  1. Read both sides, including small terms and contact details.
  2. Check orientation, margins and any fold positions.
  3. Test every QR destination and written URL.
  4. Confirm the filename and version being approved.
  5. Ask for a revised proof after any correction.
