Velvet Business Cards: What to Check Before Ordering

Illustrative velvet-style company business card mockup on a white background

Choose velvet-laminated business cards when you want the surface to feel soft as well as look understated. The finish is something a recipient experiences by holding the card, so a physical sample is more useful than a screen mockup when making the final choice.

Start with Laserco's velvet-laminated business card option, then use the checks below to discuss your design and order.

What does velvet lamination mean?

Velvet lamination describes a soft-touch film finish applied to printed material. The term describes the surface treatment; it does not tell you the card's stock, GSM, thickness or exact performance. Confirm those separately for the option being quoted.

For example, film manufacturer D&K describes its own velvet-matte film as a matte surface with a soft feel. That is an explanation of the finish category, not a claim that Laserco uses that manufacturer's material.

When is it a useful choice?

Consider velvet when clients will handle the card during meetings and the tactile impression is part of your brand. A clear logo, readable details and an uncluttered layout give the surface room to contribute.

If your main priority is a simple contact card for frequent distribution, compare standard printing on the same quantity and stock basis. If the design depends on a metallic detail, compare gold foil cards. The finish comparison guide covers the wider choices.

Check these five things on a sample

  • Feel: handle both sides and confirm which sides receive the finish.
  • Colour: compare your brand colours under ordinary lighting; a backlit screen cannot show the physical result.
  • Readability: check small contact details at actual size, especially light text on a dark background.
  • Handling: ask about the specific film's resistance to marks and wear. “Velvet” alone is not a scratch-proof guarantee.
  • Writing: if you add appointment times or notes, test the intended pen on the actual sample and allow it to dry.

Keep the artwork easy to read

Decide on a visual order: company, person, then the easiest way to contact them. Avoid shrinking important information to make room for decoration. If a QR code is included, reserve a clear area and test the final printed-size code.

Use the artwork preparation guide to check your logo, bleed, safe area and approved file. For employee variations, keep one company layout and check every name individually.

Can I combine velvet with foil or UV?

Ask the team to confirm the exact combination before you design around it. Compatibility, artwork separation and cost depend on the materials and production process. Separate product listings do not mean every combination is available.

Ask for a comparable quote

Specify the number of names, quantity per name, printed sides, required date and delivery location. Ask the team to confirm the stock and GSM, finished size, laminated sides, artwork charges if any, VAT and delivery. Keep that specification with your approved files for later reorders.

The lead image is an illustrative company mockup, not a customer project. Confirm the physical colour and finish before production.
